Well this week ended up being a bust. I was able to do my first run of the week on Tuesday. Moving week to week has been interesting, yet this week was definitely the hardest. I started out running for 3 minutes and then break for 1:30 minutes. Then I have to run 5 minutes and the walk for 2:30 minutes. Then I had to repeat it.
Let me tell you what running 5 minutes is like for someone who has never ran before. I felt like my lungs were straight piped to my throat by a 4" piece of pipe. My legs felt like they were going to explode. 5 minutes is a long time. However, I made it. I have begun to see that running is more mental for me than it is anything else. I have learned how to control my breathing and have learned how to pace myself.
On Wednesday when I set out to do my cross training to give my legs a rest, I felt like my workout was dragging and I was working way harder than usual. When I went home after work I started feeling sick. I ended up with a fever and stomach issues. The fever finally broke sometime before 4 am, but the stomach issues have remained for the rest of the week. I did do a run Friday night and was able to do my same run I did on Tuesday, but I felt it. I am going to repeat this week on this upcoming week and even though it will push my schedule back a week, it will be ok. In the end I will be stronger for it. The best advice I was given was by the guy at the Runners North store in Providence. He said to listen to your body when running. It will help you prevent injuries. We'll see how this next week goes.
